Karnataka government gives free housing for Pourakarmikas

Synopsis

The State Government has decided to provide housing to over 3000 Pourakarmikas.   In the first phase 3000 Pourakarmikas will get housing facilities at a cost of Rs 7.5 lakhs for each unit. The government has also decided to provide free, quality education to the children of Pourakarmikas under RTE.  

The State Government is continuing to shower the Pourakarmikas with facilities. After regularising the employment of over 11,500, the government has decided to provide housing to over 3000 Pourakarmikas.  Municipal Administration Minister Bhimanna Khandre spoke to media persons after sending off a team of 39 Pourakarmikas to Singapore on a study tour on Monday.

The State Government has taken significant steps to improve the quality of life of Pourakarmikas.  Already, services of over 11,500 Pourakarmikas has been regularised.  Basic pay of Rs 16,000 to 17,000 are given by local bodies to Pourakarmikas.  In the first phase 3000 Pourakarmikas will get housing facilities at a cost of Rs 7.5 lakh for each unit. The State Government will provide Rs 6 lakhs and the Central Government will give Rs 1.5 lakh, he said, reported Kannada Prabha.

All Pourakarmikas will get housing facility in a phased manner. The State Government has also decided to provide free, quality education to the children of Pourakarmikas under RTE, he said. The Pourakarmikas are being sent to Singapore for study tour in batches.

They will be sent to Japan, South Korea and Sri Lanka also, informed Khandre. The State Government has given $100 as pocket money, besides Rs 75,000 for the trip. A total of Rs 1.5 lakh is being spent for each Pourakarmika. The first batch had 40 members and the second batch of 39 will go along with 3 officials on July 25, he said.
