Flooded floor and cobra give sleepless nights to patients in HSR Layout

The residents in low-lying areas not only had to brave the sewage water gushing into their homes but also had to deal with some unexpected slithering guests.

Residents in Anepalya and Halasuru jurisdiction had to spend sleepless nights on August 14 as they found some snakes that were washed into their homes with the drain water. At many homes, people who woke up to the flooded floor in the dead of the night had tough time to save themselves from the snakes. "We neither could stay inside nor go out as our houses were flooded and even the roads outside were water clogged," the residents here rued. Their efforts to call the BBMP helpline too went in vain, reports Kannada Prabha.

Not just the residents, the patients and the hospital staff at a private clinic ran helter-skelter when they saw a cobra in the hospital. The private clinic located on the 7th Sector in HSR Layout was flooded leaving patients panicked. When the clinic workers were flushing out the water, they saw the cobra near a patient's bed. They had tough time keeping the terrified patients calm. Bengalureans having encounters with snakes especially during the monsoon is not uncommon. The reptiles usually make their presence felt in HRBR Layout, Kammanahalli, HSR Layout, Hennur, JP Nagar, Yelahanka and Banaswadi.

Although the BBMP has its rescue team ready, they are most often remain unresponsive during monsoon. However, there are private rescuers who charge anywhere between Rs 250 and Rs 500 for a visit. While it is not known what the residents did with the snakes, they have already lodged a complaint with the BBMP's wildlife cell, it is reported.
