
Former prime minister and JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda has written to the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to release water into the Hemavathi upper canal to facilitate water bodies in Arakalagudu, KR Nagar and KR Pete to be filled up, reports Kannada Prabha.
These regions have received very scanty rains in the past three years and the tanks and lakes have all dried up. Since water has not been released into Hemavathi upper right canal, water bodies in KR Nagar, KR Pete and Arakalagudu have dried up. Even the borewells have dried up. The region is undergoing acute drought, hence Gowda requested the chief minister to release water into Hemavathi canal. Deve Gowda even spoke to Siddaramaiah on phone explaining the situation, reports Kannada Prabha.
Meanwhile, at Maddur, farmers protested against not releasing the water from Krishna Raja Sagar reservoir into canals. Activists of Kasturi Karnataka Janapara Vedike conducted a mock death rituals of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Water Resources Minister MB Patil at Madduramma Tank basin. They had even printed Thithi cards and distributed.
