Corporator destroys portion of Kannada school built by Kannada activist

A portion of Kannada aided private school on lease on Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) land at Cottonpet has been destroyed to construct a water treatment plant, without bringing to the notice of the school authorities. This has caused unrest among public and the school administration, report Kannada Prabha.

The Kempe Gowda Primary School was established in 1963 by the Kannada activist and former MLA G Narayana Kumar. It was constructed on a land leased out by BBMP. It was running very successfully and only recently the number of students getting admitted to Kannada school had declined. Hence, the government had stopped all facilities to the school. For sometime now, the school had stopped running. However, the school continues to have administration and secretary.

On Friday, local corporator D Pramod had destroyed a portion of the building for construction of water treatment plant on the spot. Neither the school administration was informed about it nor permission was taken, alleges G Narayana Kumar’s son and school secretary Gurudev. However, the BBMP declined any information about the incident. Later, the BBMP officials said the lease period for the school has expired and hence permission was granted to construct a water treatment plant at the site.

Primary and Secondary School Education Minister Tanveer Sait has taken objection to destroying a portion of the Kannada school and said “Miscreants have destroyed and tried to encroach the school established by Kannada activist and former MLA G Narayana Kumar. I will personally help Gurudev Narayana Kumar, the secretary of the school to save the school.”
