Three persons died and several sustained injuries when the bus in which they were travelling plunged into the dangerous Charmady Ghats in Belthangady taluk, on Tuesday.
At least over 40 passengers were travelling in the bus when the mishap occurred. The bus driver could not control the wheels as a result, the bus fell at the hairpin curve 3, reports Suvarna.
The injured have been shifted to hospitals in Belthangady and Mangaluru.
The charmady ghat - in Mudigere taluk - with nine hairpin curves connects Dakshina Kannada with Chikmagaluru district. In fact, the ghat stretch is more dangerous than the Shirdi ghat with its narrow, deep trenches and thick forest. Shirdi ghat is in Sakleshpur taluk, Hassan district. While the stretch offers a beautiful sight during monsoon, it is equally dangerous to drive on these hairpin curves.
