Bengaluru municipality builds international-level table tennis academy in Yediyur

For the first time, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has set up an international-level table tennis academy named 'Dhruvatare' at Yediyur ward. Since only cricket and hockey are given prime importance, BJP corporator Poornima Ramesh and her husband NR Ramesh decided to do this for table tennis enthusiasts, who are more in number in Bengaluru south parliamentary segment. Apart from the academy, there is also a modern gym for the public.

Yediyur ward corporator Poornima Ramesh and her husband NR Ramesh decided to set up an exclusive table tennis academy by utilising Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) funds worth Rs 50 lakh.

Speaking to Asianet Newsable, NR Ramesh, BJP leader, said, "The ward is already considered as a model ward in south India for its innovation in terms of parks, lake development, waste collection, its recycle, use of energy, etc. Now, this academy is another feather in the cap."

'Dhruvatare' table tennis academy is of international standard will be capable of holding 12 sessions in a day. Only for maintenance and power, a minimum fee of Rs 250 is being charged, the corporator said.  There is also a model gym for people to workout. The entire project cost Rs 50 lakh," said Ramesh.

Apart from inaugurating the academy on Tuesday, the corporator, her husband along with the mayor, distributed carpenter kit, 50 bicycles, barber kit and more for the poor under the social welfare scheme.
