Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru is all set to get its second terminal by March 2021. American firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) has designed the Terminal 2 of the Bengaluru Airport.
The new terminal will have four A380 Code-F gates which will enable the airport to handle wide-bodied aircraft. As of now, only Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi has this feature.
According to a report in Deccan Herald, the T2 will be an extension of the existing terminal and a pier structure around the three sides of the main building. The work has already begun and is being done at a great rate. This will enhance the handling ability of the existing terminal from 25 million to 45 million passengers.
It will also be a multi-level terminal as one floor will have the arrivals and the other will have the departures. A multi-level car parking and an Airport Metro Station will also be built along with the T2 structure.
