However, retired air commodore MK Chandrasekhar observed that while the citizens expect the country to take bold decisions, the Indian Army may not yet be ready to face the combat situation.

Speaking after paying homage to the martyrs of Indo-China War in 1962 at the National Military Memorial in Bengaluru on Sunday, retd air commodore Chandrasekhar remarked that the Indian Army is not yet prepared to fight on China borders at 15,000 ft height. "This was the reason when India lost its several camps in the 1962 war against China. There were several reasons for the loss, but the country has not yet thought over it as one nation," retd air commodore Chandrasekhar observed. However, he clarified himself that this was the occasion to offer tributes to the martyr but not to speak of politics.

On the occasion, several retired army officers recollected that the country never expected that China would wage war. "However, China took us by surprise with its attack on October 20, 1962. China's army strength overpowered us as we had fewer platoons and it was difficult to fight at the height of 14,000 to 15,000 ft. Eventually, China won the war that concluded after a month on November 21," was how many retired army personnel recollected.
