The revised plan for the development of Vasantha Teertha Kalyani at the historical Chola period Vasantha Vallabharaya temple is found to be unscientific, with the three ancient canals closed and no inlet provided. Also, the retaining wall surrounding the Kalyani will prevent rain water inflow. As a result, the Kalyani will remain dry despite developmental works.
The attempts to save Vasantha Teertha from the land sharks, who schemed to shrink the Kalyani from its original 7,075 sq mt to a mere 3,181 sq mt, after protests
from locals and historians, is also turning into a mess with faulty revised plans. A meeting scheduled on Thursday with Sudha Murty, founder, the Infosys Foundation, who donated Rs 2.09 crore for the developmental works to save the Kalyani, did not happen as she could not make it. Hence it is rescheduled for today.  

The Muzrai Department officials, architects and Sudha Murty will discuss plans to restore the Kalyani to its original form. Meanwhile, a complaint lodged by one Nageshwar Rao with Lokayukta has come for investigation and the Lokayukta court has reserved orders for August 16. Rao has demanded that the civil works must be stopped immediately as the development plans are faulty and serve no purpose to fill the Kalyani with water. Rao has insisted that the three ancient canals that facilitated water inflow to the Kalyani must be renovated. He has also demanded that top priority must be given, not for construction of parking lot and park but to take action to stop drainage flowing into the Kalyani. 
The funds donated by Infosys Foundation must be utilised for restoring the ancient three canals and stopping effluents from nearby apartments flowing into the Kalyani
and setting up a water treatment plant at the site are of utmost emergency, he said.
