The 18th City civil Court has served a notice to Road Traffic and Safety Division DIG D Roopa in connection with the defamation case filed against her by retired jail DGP Satyanarayana Rao, reported Kannada Prabha.

Satyanarayana Rao has alleged that he was accused without any reason and it has created problems for him getting the mandatory facilities due to him during retirement.  He has claimed Rs 20 crore as defamation. The judge heard the complaint and served the notice and posted the next hearing to Dec 16.

DIG Roopa had alleged that Sasikala of Tamil Nadu was given special privileges at Parappana Agrahara jail in exchange of bribe by Satuanarayana Rao.  He had sent a legal notice to Roopa last July through his lawyer that she must tender an unconditional apology or he would file a Rs 50 crore defamation suit. Since there was no response he has filed a case.

The judge questioned if permission must be sanctioned by the authorities concerned when cases are a lodged against IPS officers. Responding to that lawyer representing Satyanarayana Rao said since it is a civil case there is no need to seek permission from authorities concerned.

Satyanarayana Rao has alleged that because of the false allegations made during his retirement, he has not been able to get a suitable job.  Also in the last 15 days of his career he had suffered insult and mental torture, he has said.
