2 constables suspended for extorting money from Chenda artists

Synopsis

Railway Superintendent Chaitra suspended 2 constables for threatening, assaulting and extorting Rs 900 from Chenda artists from Kerala at City railway station. As they were delayed the train had left and they were stranded at the station the night. Two of the artist went to a side and were urinating. Constables Papanna and Vinay Kumar caught them and said they had committed a crime by urinating in public place. Assaulted and snatched Rs 9000 which they had on them.

Railway Superintendent Chaitra suspended 2 constables for threatening, assaulting and extorting Rs 900 from Chenda artists from Kerala at City railway station, on Thursday, reported Kannada Prabha.

The suspended are Papanna, car driver to Railway Police ADGP Amarakumar Pande and Vinay Kumar.  On Nov 12 a group of Chenda (traditional drummers) artists had come from Kerala to perform at a program organised by Shanthi Nagar MLA Harris. The artists’ team, led by Haridas, also an employee with Kerala Electric Board, performed and left to the railway station.

As they were delayed the train had left and they were stranded at the station the night. Two of the artist went to a side and were urinating. Constables Papanna and Vinay Kumar caught them and said they had committed a crime by urinating in public place, assaulted and snatched Rs 9000 which they had on them.

The Railway police have filed an FIR against the 2 constables and Railway Superintendent Chaitra suspended them.

It is learnt that both the constables are habitual extortionists and are known for threatening auto drivers, cart venders.  Several cases are filed against them.  Their increment was held up.
