Bengaluru Techie Breaks Down ₹18,000 Monthly Budget

Synopsis

An SDE intern in Bengaluru, Amy Arora, shared her monthly budget of ₹18,000 in a viral Instagram video. She detailed her expenses, including ₹7,200 for PG accommodation and ₹3,600 for food, showing how careful planning makes living in the city feasible.

Bengaluru, often regarded as a high-cost-of-living city, may be challenging to navigate on a limited budget. An intern recently described how she handles her monthly costs on just ₹18,000, providing a practical view of everyday spending in the metropolis. In an Instagram video, the 22-year-old SDE intern outlined her budget, demonstrating how she balances necessities with minor pleasures.

Amy Arora's thorough narrative has struck a chord with many young professionals, who believe the expenditures are acceptable and that with careful planning, it is feasible to live in the city. In the video, Arora stated that she presently resides in a paying guest (PG) lodging with a monthly fee of around ₹7,200. This is the largest portion of her expenses, yet it allows her to avoid the greater costs of renting an apartment alone.

She stated that food is the next significant expenditure, but she keeps it low by using a mess service. She spends around ₹3,600 per month on food. Her commuting expenditures are quite minimal because she only goes to the office twice a week. Even so, her monthly travel expenditures are roughly ₹1,600.

She still saves money for personal expenses even if she has a limited budget. She spends ₹2,000 on internet orders and another ₹2,000 on dining out and ordering in. A further ₹1,500 is spent on shopping and other incidentals.

She adopts a pragmatic attitude to leisure. She doesn't have to pay for any of the activities, such pizza-making sessions, which are frequently completed through collaborations.

How Did Social Media React?

Instagram users responded to the video by calling the costing breakdown realistic and relevant, with many commenting that the costs were normal for Bengaluru. Some people mentioned that good planning allowed them to live on a limited wage, while others said that living in a PG and depending on a mess helped keep expenditures down.

One of the users wrote, “Finally, someone with reasonable expenses.” Another user said, "Back in the days when I was in Bengaluru, people didn't believe when I used to say that my monthly expenses in BLR is roughly 20,000."

A third person said, “This is kinda realistic.” "I think I should fix my budget," another person wrote.
