Three MESCOM powermen have been praised as 'real heroes' after a video showing them crossing a raging river to restore a damaged power line went viral on social media. The workers held on to the electric wires as they carefully made their way across the flooded stretch to reconnect the power supply, displaying remarkable courage and commitment to their duty despite the dangerous conditions.

The incident took place in Dhoomadka, part of Bettampady village in Puttur taluk, where continuous rainfall over the past few days has caused the Seere river to overflow. The three MESCOM powermen from the rural division, Bande Nawaz, Praveen and Basavaraj, carried out the risky repair operation with assistance from local resident Janu Naika and his family.

Power Line Damaged After Palm Tree Falls

Around 12 houses in the area receive electricity through an LT line running from the opposite side of the Seere river. On Monday, a palm tree fell on the power line, causing two of the four wires to snap and fall into the swollen river.

After noticing the damaged wires, Janu Naika, his son and other local residents quickly secured them to a nearby tree to prevent them from being swept away by the strong currents.

Powermen Brave Strong Currents To Restore Supply

The three MESCOM workers arrived at the location on Tuesday to repair the damaged line. With assistance from local residents, they began the challenging task of restoring the wires above the flooded river.

MESCOM's Bettampady branch Junior Engineer Puttu J. was also present at the site and guided the team during the operation.

A video recorded during the repair showed the three powermen battling the strong currents and carefully carrying out their work. The footage, which surfaced on social media on Wednesday, quickly went viral, with users praising the workers for their courage and dedication.

MESCOM Official Praises Team's Dedication

Shivashankar, Assistant Executive Engineer of MESCOM's Puttur Rural division, praised the workers for their efforts and commitment.

"This is the highest example of dedication to duty. We are very proud of our team's work," he said.

The powermen's efforts have drawn widespread appreciation online, particularly as they worked in challenging conditions to restore electricity to residents affected by the damaged power line.
