After days of intense political speculation, the suspense over Karnataka’s leadership has finally come to an end. Following the Congress Legislative Party meeting held on May 30, DK Shivakumar has been officially declared the next Chief Minister of Karnataka. With the announcement, celebrations erupted across the state almost immediately, marking a significant political development.
As soon as the leaders exited the meeting, supporters began chanting slogans of “DK, DK!”. Bike rallies, fireworks and celebrations were reported from several parts of the state.
In Hubballi, Congress leaders and DK Shivakumar’s supporters held large-scale celebrations. The festivities were led by Rajat Ullagaddimath, son-in-law of former minister Laxmi Hebbalkar. Supporters poured milk over large flex banners of DK Shivakumar, fed sweets to his photograph and burst firecrackers amid loud cheers, expressing confidence in his leadership and future development of Karnataka.
A similar celebratory atmosphere was witnessed in Ballari, where Congress workers and supporters organised a bike rally and burst crackers soon after the announcement.
In Bengaluru, large crowds gathered outside Vidhana Soudha and Raj Bhavan, raising slogans in support of DK Shivakumar. Meanwhile, he proceeded to Raj Bhavan to meet Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot and formally submitted his letter staking claim to form the government.
DK Shivakumar is expected to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka on Monday. Reports suggest that around 10 ministers may also take oath along with him in the first phase of cabinet formation.
Sources indicate that Shivakumar has already submitted a list of 10 MLAs to the party high command for ministerial consideration. The cabinet expansion is likely to take place in phases, with a further reshuffle expected after the Rajya Sabha elections.
