The Indian Coast Guard carried out a dramatic rescue operation in the Arabian Sea off the Mangaluru coast, saving six fishermen after their fishing boat sank in rough sea conditions. The incident occurred as Karnataka's coastal districts remain under an orange alert for heavy rainfall until July 6, with adverse weather continuing to pose risks to fishermen and maritime activities. The Coast Guard's swift response and use of advanced rescue equipment helped avert a major tragedy.
The fishing boat, 'IFB Manjumatha', had ventured into the Arabian Sea with six fishermen on board for a routine fishing expedition.
However, the weather deteriorated suddenly, with rough seas and high waves battering the vessel. The boat began taking in water and eventually started sinking, leaving all six fishermen stranded in dangerous conditions.
After receiving a distress call, the Indian Coast Guard immediately deployed its advanced offshore patrol vessel, ICGS Sachet, to the location.

The rough sea conditions made it difficult for the rescue team to approach the sinking boat directly. To overcome the challenge, the Coast Guard deployed remote-operated lifebuoys and guided them towards the stranded fishermen, helping them stay afloat until rescue personnel could safely retrieve them.
All six fishermen were rescued successfully.
Following the successful rescue operation, the fishermen were brought to New Mangalore Port for first aid, food and other necessary assistance.
Officials confirmed that all six fishermen are safe and in good health. The Coast Guard's timely intervention prevented a major tragedy despite the hazardous weather conditions prevailing along the Karnataka coast.
