Bengaluru Man Finds ‘Little Fat Black Shirt' Written Instead Of Name On Restaurant Bill, Company Reacts

A Bengaluru man was left stunned after checking his restaurant bill and discovering that, instead of his name, the receipt identified him as “Little fat black shirt.” The customer shared the incident in a now-viral Reddit post on r/Bangaloresocial, titled “Subko didn’t use my name.” He said he had visited Subko The Craftery in Koramangala, ordered food and paid his bill before noticing the unusual description under the customer details.

Rather than displaying his name, the receipt carried the description “Little fat black shirt.” The man posted a screenshot of the bill and questioned why a customer's physical appearance was being used as an identifier.

He said the description was particularly hurtful because it reduced him to his body type. He argued that customers could easily be identified through their names, table numbers or order details. He also stressed that body-shaming should not be brushed aside as humour simply because the person being described is a man.

The post quickly sparked debate on Reddit, with users divided over whether the description was an ill-judged attempt at humour or an outright disrespectful way of identifying a customer.

Subko Coffee Roasters later addressed the controversy publicly through an Instagram apology. The restaurant acknowledged the complaint and said it wanted to confront the issue openly rather than quietly resolve it.

“Some things you fix quietly. Others you fix out loud, because staying quiet is how the culture that allowed it survives,” the restaurant said in its statement.

Addressing the customer directly, Subko said it was sorry “not for how it looked” but “for what it was” and invited him to contact its Internal Complaints Commission (ICC), which handles grievance redressal, through a form linked in its Instagram bio.

The restaurant also took a firm stance against body-shaming, stating, “Fat shaming is wrong. Every form. Every time. No exceptions.”

While some users praised Subko for publicly acknowledging the mistake and taking accountability, others criticised the restaurant, arguing that a customer's body should never be used as a label or identifier.
