SRH overcomes Shaun Marsh heroics to register a 26-run victory

Synopsis

KXIP had won the toss and chose to field first.  David Warner had said at the toss that he wanted to bat first.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) registered their first victory away from home as they comfortably defeated Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in their own backyard. However, SRH did survive the Shaun Marsh scare as the Australian was looking extremely dangerous while chasing that steep target.

Batting first on a beautiful wicket, SRH posted a massive total of 207 runs in their 20 overs. Shikhar Dhawan and skipper David Warner got off to a flier. Both batsmen went on to score half centuries and that too in quick time. Dhawan finished with 77 and Warner was dismissed for a fiery 51. Kane Williamson took up the job from there and went on to score 54 runs from just 27 balls and powered SRH to that mammoth total.

KXIP had to bat extremely well against the bowling-heavy SRH side. Martin Guptill gave them a good start but the New Zealander perished to a knuckle ball from Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Then it was the Shaun Marsh show but only from one end of the wicket.

Marsh scored 84 from just 50 balls and his innings was decorated with 14 fours and two sixes. If he would have stayed there in the middle for a little longer, KXIP could have fancied their chances of reaching the target. But unfortunately that did not happen, courtesy of two brilliant spells from Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, which got things done for SRH.
