On 31st July, the Delhi Police arrested a 28-year-old woman and her five-year-old son at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi as she was on her way to Kabul to “lead a true Islamic life.”
According to The Indian Express, Yasmeen Muhammed had come to the capital from Patna along with her son to join one of the 21 youths from Kerala who had gone missing last month reportedly to join the Islamic State.
The police said that Yasmeen, who is a divorcee, was detained by immigration officials during the security check. After which she started panicking and even accused the officials of harassing her. “She was handed over to Delhi Police’s special cell and later taken into custody by a team from Kerala Police, which had issued a Look-out Circular (LOC) for her,” officials told IE.
She was then taken to a court in Kasargod on Monday, where she was charged under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and remanded in judicial custody.
According to Kerala police, Yasmeen is the first wife of Abdul Rashid who is responsible for brainwashing and deporting the youths from the state last month. The Kerala police started tracking Yasmeen’s movements after it came to their notice that she had worked at the Kottakkal and Kollam campuses of Peace International School during 2013-2014 which came on the radar of intelligence agencies due to its suspected links with some of the youths who had gone missing.
Moreover, she has been in constant touch with Rashid and their conversation revealed that Rashid had been luring Yasmeen to join him to lead a pure Islamic life. She couldn’t leave along with the Kerala youths because of some delay in getting her documents cleared.
During the interrogation, she said that she wanted to leave India as the life she wanted to lead was not possible in the country. She said she wanted to lead a life according to the Quran, and that she hated music and all forms of entertainment.”
