Kerala's reputation for cleanliness and civic sense has received fresh attention on social media after travel content creator and vlogger Anmol shared a video praising the hygiene and facilities at Kasaragod railway station. In an Instagram Reel posted on August 12, Anmol, popularly known as Backpacker Anmol, compared the station's cleanliness to that of railway stations in Japan, saying the experience had left him with a strong first impression of northern Kerala.
The travel creator said he had grown up hearing that Kerala was known for its educated and progressive population. However, his visit to Kasaragod gave him an opportunity to experience what he had heard about the state for himself. From clean platforms and litter-free railway tracks to well-maintained waiting areas and functional facilities, he highlighted several aspects that impressed him during his visit.
In the Reel titled ‘This is not Japan, it's Kerala’, Anmol said he initially found himself wondering whether he was in Kerala or Japan. While introducing viewers to his location, he explained that he was in Kasaragod, the northernmost district of Kerala.
He then turned his attention to the railway station and expressed surprise at its cleanliness. Anmol pointed out that the railway tracks appeared free of litter and said the overall environment reminded him of a railway station in Japan.
The video has since attracted attention online, with viewers responding to his observations about Kasaragod railway station, cleanliness in Kerala and the facilities available at the station.
Beyond the clean platforms and railway tracks, Anmol highlighted several facilities available at the station. He particularly mentioned a cabin equipped with working massage chairs, which he used during his visit.
He also pointed out that the station had functional ATMs, clean waiting areas and a hygienic drinking water facility. These amenities stood out to him, particularly as travellers often complain about poorly maintained facilities at railway stations.
Anmol also praised the availability of dustbins across the station and observed that people were making an effort to keep the surroundings clean. He highlighted the spotless floors and well-maintained chairs in the waiting area.
The travel creator further noted that the station had clean washrooms for both men and women. Reflecting on his experience, he described Kasaragod railway station as one of the cleanest and most beautiful railway stations he had seen in India.
Although it was only his first day in Kerala, Anmol said the experience had already left him with a positive impression of the state and made him feel that Kerala could win his heart.
The video received several reactions from social media users, with many welcoming Anmol to Kasaragod and encouraging him to explore more parts of the region.
One user commented: "Welcome to Kasaragod… As a local, it’s so awesome seeing a traveler like you exploring our region. Kasaragod is the land of 7 languages and untouched nature. Make sure you don't miss Bekal Fort (Kerala's largest fort), the misty Ranipuram, and Ananthapura Lake Temple. Enjoy your time in ksd."
Another user commented: "It's all about civic sense ."
A third user said: "Glad to see our hometown getting the appreciation it deserves! Thanks for sharing this Brother!"
Anmol's Reel has put the spotlight on Kasaragod railway station and the region's cleanliness, while also encouraging travellers to explore northern Kerala and its cultural and natural attractions.
