In a shocking incident, an 18-year-old boy died after consuming poison, allegedly due to mounting debt from online gaming at his home, in Adarsh Colony in Udham Singh Nagar's Rudrapur on Tuesday night. The teenager, who was a Class 12 student, had been borrowing money to fund his gaming addiction for over a year.

The uncle of the deceased said the family was unaware of his debts until recently.

"He promised to stop after we confronted him about his gaming, but he continued secretly. We didn't know he was borrowing money," he said, according to a report by TOI.

The boy's family members said he had been struggling with his "addiction", taking loans to gamble on online games but continuously losing.

The teenager consumed poison and was rushed to the district hospital in Rudrapur and later transferred to Sushila Tiwari Hospital (STH) in Haldwani as his condition worsened. He died during treatment.

A post-mortem was conducted on Wednesday, and the body was handed over to the family.
