UP hospital introduces ‘Cobot’ - robot to give medicines, food to patients in quarantine wards

Synopsis

The Cobot is in the shape of a trolley with three levels- has a mic and speaker attached. It can move with a remote control to deliver medicines and food to patients inside the home ward, thus limiting the entry of health staff.

Meerut: To limit human interaction in quarantine wards, two residents of Bulandshahr, who are studying in Noida, have come up with an innovative idea of a corona robot or Cobot. The Cobot will now assist the doctors and nurses at a quarantine facility in Khurja.

The Cobot is in the shape of a trolley with three levels- has a mic and speaker attached. It can move with a remote control to deliver medicines and food to patients inside the home ward, thus limiting the entry of health staff.

Nishant Sharma and Atul Kumar are second year engineering students at Sharda University and GL Bajaj Institute of Technology and Management, respectively, and live in Bulandshahr. With both of them being classmates since school, they have in the past too come up with such robots.

“This time, it was a little different from the past because we were doing this for a cause. Just a few days ago, we made a robot which would not require any touch to sanitise one’s hands.”

“Now, we have come up with a robot named 'Cobot' - which is a three-shelf moving trolley used to carry medicines and food for patients inside the quarantine ward, without any human intervention. It can be controlled from a distance of 1 km and can carry a weight of up to 10 kg,” Sharma said.

Dr Peetam Singh, chief medical superintendent of Surajmal Jatiya Hospital, said, “This move by the district administration will help in reducing contact between patients and health staff. It has a mic and speaker as well.”
