UP girl studying in US dies in Bulandshahar road mishap after alleged eve-teasing by bikers

Synopsis

A girl was killed in a road accident while trying to evade eve-teasing in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahar. The girl who has been identified as 17-year-old Sudiksha had earned a scholarship from the Government of India and had returned to India from the US during the lockdown. She was supposed to fly back on August 20. 

Bulandshahar: A girl student was killed in a road accident while trying to evade eve-teasing in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahar. The incident happened near Chauraura Mustafabad village on Garh Highway at 11 am on Monday (August 10).

The deceased student was identified as Sudiksha Bhati. She had returned from the US during the coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown. The girl’s family alleged that she was being eve-teased by some boys on a bike. Sudiksha’s paternal uncle (father’s brother) too got seriously injured in the accident. Police have filed the case and started the investigation.

According to police, Sudiksha, along with her paternal uncle Nigam Bhati, was on her way to her maternal uncle’s home. The two were on a scooty bike. They had reached near Chauraura Mustafabad village on Bulandshahar-Garh highway when the bike collided with a Bullet.

Police confirmed that 17-year-old Sudiksha, who was riding pillion, died on the spot. Sudiksha’s uncle was seriously injured in the accident. Police further added that the riders of the Bullet immediately fled from the scene. Police helped Nigam reach the hospital. The student’s body has been sent for postmortem.

Sudiksha’s family alleged that the two boys on the Bullet were trying hard to overtake the scooty. According to the family, the boy suddenly came in front of the scooty and applied brakes. So, Nigam lost control over the scooty and he fell on the road along with Sudiksha.

According to sources, Sudiksha had earned a scholarship from the Indian government. She was studying business management at Babson College in Massachusetts, USA. The sources added that she had also earned a scholarship worth Rs 3.80 crore from HCL. Sudiksha had returned to India in June and was supposed to fly back to the US on August 20.

BSP chief Mayawati has condemned the incident and appealed for severest of punishment for the culprits.
