There would be no shortage of beef in Goa: Parrikar

Chief Minister of Goa Manohar Parrikar has ensured that there will be no shortage of beef in the state. He is even ready to import beef from neighbouring states, if need be. Last week Union Minister Ramdas Athawale said everybody has the right to eat beef.

Unlike tensions over beef ban across India, Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar said that he is ready to import beef from neighbourign states if there was a shortage of the same in his home state. Assuring that there will be no shortage of beef in the state, Parrikar said, "I haven't closed option of getting beef from Belgaum or some other place to ensure there is no shortage of beef." He further added, "Can assure inspection of beef, coming from neighbouring state, will be done by proper doctors or those authorised for it."

Incidentally, last week Union Minister Ramdas Athawale said everybody has the right to eat beef. Earlier, a 40-year-old man was reportedly thrashed by four men in Nagpur's Bharsingi area on the suspicion of carrying meat. There have been several cases of lynching in several parts of the country, the most ill-famed being the one that involved a minor boy from New Delhi-Junaid-who was brutally stabbed to death in a local train in front of his relatives. He was suspected of carrying meat in a plastic bag.
