Election flying squad officials inspected vehicles of DMK leaders, including Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and MP Kanimozhi, in Tamil Nadu. The checks were part of routine monitoring ahead of the upcoming assembly elections on April 23.

DMK Leaders' Vehicles Inspected Amid Poll Vigilance

Ahead of the upcoming assembly polls, the election flying squad officials on Thursday inspected vehicles of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leaders, including Tamil Nadu Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and party MP Kanimozhi.

Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, the DMK candidate from the Thiruverumbur constituency, was intercepted by election officials while campaigning in various parts of his constituency. While travelling along the Thiruverumbur-Vengur road, the flying squad stopped his vehicle and carried out an inspection as part of routine monitoring during the election period.

In a separate incident in Sivaganga, a team of Election Commission flying squad officials, along with police personnel, conducted a check of Kanimozhi's vehicle. The inspection was carried out amid heightened vigilance to ensure compliance with election norms.

Election Schedule and MCC

The ECI announced that Tamil Nadu will go to the polls in a single phase on April 23, with counting of votes scheduled for May 4. The MCC came into effect immediately after ECI's announcement, with the initiation of the election process for the 234-member state assembly, whose current tenure ends on May 10.

Kanimozhi Confident of DMK's Return to Power

Earlier in the day, Kanimozhi expressed strong confidence in the DMK's electoral prospects, stating that people in Tamil Nadu favour the return of the "Dravidian Model 2.0" government led by Chief Minister MK Stalin.

"Therefore, I strongly believe that victory for the DMK is assured," she said. "People want the government to continue because the development, the growth, and the GDP are in an upward trend after the Chief Minister came to power in the past five years. Even in Thoothukudi, they've brought in so many industries, and young people have got employment opportunities because of the Chief Minister MK Stalin's government. So definitely people are very keen, and many schemes for women empowerment have been rolled out, and for students who are interested in going for higher education, the government has really reached out to them, supported them, stood by them," Kanimozhi said.

Comments on Actor Vijay, Congress List Delay

Commenting on actor-turned-politician Vijay contesting from two constituencies, she said it reflects his confidence and that of his party, adding that she does not wish to criticise the move.

Kanimozhi said, "Sonia Gandhi has not been in good health, which has caused a delay in the release of the Congress candidate list. However, the list will be released soon."
