Did you know that only 80 of the 1,113 judges in the Supreme Court and High Courts are women?
Legal website Bar & Bench cited Andhra Pradesh High Court judge Justice Lalitha Kanneganti who said that the representation of women in the higher judiciary was disappointing.
Justice Lalitha made the remarks while delivering the second lecture of Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Lecture Series organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Adhivakta Parishad on the topic "The 'SHE' of the Indian Legal System".
Currently, there are only 2 women judges in the Supreme Court and 78 in the 25 High Courts across the country, Bar & Bench reported.
In her remarks, Justice Lalitha urged women lawyers to accept and fight the challenges that came their way.
"You need to do that to succeed in this male-dominated profession," she said.
