SC seeks status report from Centre on Vijay Mallya's extradition

The Supreme Court today sought a status report from Centre on the extradition of liquor baron Vijay Mallya from London.

In the last hearing, the Centre had told the court that extradition request has been made as per the direction of the court. 

The SC bench had then directed Mallya's lawyers to apprise it by November 2 the nature of the confidential proceedings in the United Kindom, when it will end and by when he will appear before it to accept his sentence for contempt.

The court had in May 2017 found Mallya guilty of contempt for wilful disobedience of its order to come clean about his assets and not disclosing $40 million Rs 600 crore that he had received from British liquor major Diageo Plc following his resignation as Chairman of the United Spirits Limited in February 2016

The apex court had in June directed its registry to explain as to why Mallya's review petition had not been listed before the concerned court for the last three years. It had directed the registry to furnish all the details including names of officials who had dealt with the review petition file in the last three years.
