Bengaluru: Hours after the CCB police probing the Bengaluru violence case confirmed arrest of former mayor R Sampath Raj, Home Minister of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai has said that the arrest is a “major development”.

Basavaraj Bommai said Sampath would not have absconded if he was innocent. “He is an accused who had been absconding. Now that we have caught him, further probes will reveal the conspiracy and more people behind the same,” he said.

For the uninitiated former mayor Sampath Raj, an accused in the Bengaluru violence case, was taken by officials to the Central Crime Branch (CCB) headquarters in the city on Tuesday, hours after confirming his arrest.

While Sampath is now being questioned by the investigating team probing the case, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Patil has said that more details of his arrest will be shared after the grilling.
