Republic TV says tapes 'prove' Tharoor lied about wife's death

Synopsis

Sunanda Pushkar was found dead in a five-star on the night of January 17, 2014 Her husband, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, has been the prime suspect in the death  Republic TV aired a set of recorded conversations, alleging they proved Tharoor lied

In a new exclusive, Republic TV has aired 19 audio clips, which are reported to be conversations that Republic TV's Prema Sridevi held with Sunanda Pushkar and Shashi Tharoor's assistant Narayan.

Republic TV reports that the clips, which are recordings of Sridevi's attempts to meet Pushkar for a story, indicate a conspiracy by Shashi Tharoor to hide crucial evidence from the investigation into his wife's mysterious death in January 2014 in the Leela Palace in Delhi.

The channel used the tapes to make a number of allegations, including that Tharoor had not informed the cops about a particular visit to the hotel close to his wife's death and that Tharoor would allow anyone to interview Pushkar, nor allow her to be 'woken' from her sleep.

The strongest allegation, based on the tapes, is that someone had moved Pushkar's body from room number 307 to room number 345. The channel made the allegation based on the fact that in the tapes, Tharoor's assistant mentioned that they were staying in room number 307, but the body was found elsewhere.

Shashi Tharoor, who is a Congress MP, termed the reports appearing in the television channel as "misrepresentations and outright lies".

"Exasperating farrago of distortions, misrepresentations and outright lies being broadcast by an unprincipled showman masquerading as a journalist," Tharoor said in a Facebook post.

"I am angered that someone would exploit a human tragedy for personal gain and TRPs. I challenge him to prove his false claims in a court of law," the former UN diplomat said.

Sunanda Pushkar was found dead at a suite in a five-star hotel in South Delhi on the night of January 17, 2014.
