Synopsis

After Maharashtra, the Madhya Pradesh government on Wednesday made the reading of the Preamble of the Constitution mandatory in schools on every Saturday.

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Following steps taken in Maharashtra, schools in Madhya Pradesh will have to read the Preamble of the Constitution every Saturday.

On Wednesday, the Madhya Pradesh government made it mandatory for the Preamble of the Constitution to be read out.

District Education officers have been issued the orders by The Department of School Education.

The Maharashtra government made it mandatory, beginning from January 26, in all primary and secondary schools, for the Preamble of the Constitution to be read after prayers.

School Education Minister and senior Congress leader Varsha Gaikwad on Tuesday issued a statement in this regard, pointing out that the activity is part of a programmed titled Sovereignty of Constitution

"From January 26, a programme called Sovereignty of Constitution, the public interest of all will be started, wherein every school Preamble of the Constitution will be read by all in a group before the classes begin," the statement read.

The statement also said that the activity will be carried out with an objective to help people understand the basic principles of inclusiveness, justice, equality, liberty and brotherhood.

The statement also drew reference to a similar order passed by the School Education and Sports Department in 2013.

However, it has been observed that the order passed on February 4, 2013, is not being adhered to, the statement pointed out.
