Synopsis

Raipur SSP Lal Umed Singh reported a 10% overall crime reduction in 2025, with cases dropping to 15,896. While celebrating improved policing and a major narcotics crackdown, he flagged a rise in murders over trivial issues as a key concern.

Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Lal Umed Singh on Sunday said overall crime in the city has come down by 10 per cent, according to the annual crime data shared for 2025.

Addressing a press conference, Singh said the city recorded 17,703 crime cases in 2024, which fell to 15,896 cases in 2025. The press briefing was attended by the Additional SP, Traffic ASP, CSP and other senior police officers.

Sharing details of the annual crime review, the SSP said the reduction reflected improved policing and monitoring across the city.

Road Safety and Traffic Enforcement

Singh also said road accidents were more frequent in rural areas than within city limits. He added that traffic enforcement had been stepped up, with E-Challan penalties rising by 50 per cent compared to the previous year. He said the police department plans to launch more public awareness programmes to promote road safety.

"Most accidents involved two-wheelers, where the majority of victims were found not wearing helmets. The department plans to launch public awareness programmes to reduce road accidents and promote safety," Singh said.

Concerns Over Murders from Trivial Disputes

The SSP also flagged concerns over a rise in murders triggered by trivial disputes. He said police data showed that several violent incidents had occurred over minor disagreements.

"Incidents occurred over minor issues such as mobile phone usage, serving cold food, or refusing to accompany someone," Singh said, adding that "addressing these impulsive crimes is a priority for the coming year."

Major Crackdown on Narcotics

On action against narcotics, Singh said Raipur Police carried out a major crackdown on drug trafficking during the year. He said around 600 suspects were arrested as part of the drive.

"Through close monitoring of trials, over 100 individuals have received strict legal sentences. Major narcotics syndicates have been dismantled. The police will maintain focus to ensure these drug chains do not reappear," Singh said.

Operational Performance and Event Management

Highlighting operational performance, the SSP said the police successfully handled law-and-order situations during protests, festivals and major public events throughout 2025, including the Rajyotsav celebrations.

"The fact that these events concluded without any major crimes or mishaps is considered a significant achievement for the Raipur Police," Singh said.
