Police detains Dilip Ghosh before BJP's ‘Uttarkanya’ campaign

A large police force has been deployed in Siliguri to obstruct the Uttarkanya campaign called by Bharatiya Janata Party's Youth Wing today (December 7). The BJP's Uttarkanya campaign aims to highlight multiple issues including corruption against the ruling Trinamool Congress, deprivation of tea workers in North Bengal. However, before the beginning of the campaign, police arrested Dilip Ghosh and Sayantan Basu.

The police officials are active since morning to stop the Uttarkanya campaign called by Bharatiya Janata Party's Youth Wing today (December 7).

According to reports, two rallies have been organized-one from Jalpaimore to Uttarkanya and the other from Fulbari to Uttarkanya.  Hence, the Fulbari canal bridge has been barricaded since morning and section 144 has been imposed in the area. Strict police action will be taken if mass gatherings are held.

State President Dilip Ghosh, BJP leader Sayantan Basu and Alipurduar MP John Barla will be taking part in the campaign. The BJP's Uttarkanya campaign aims to highlight multiple issues including corruption against the ruling Trinamool Congress, deprivation of tea workers in North Bengal. 

A large police force has been deployed to obstruct the rallies. Iron and bamboo barricades have been set up at various places along the road. If required, tear gas and water cannons will be used to prevent any untoward incident.

Before the beginning of the campaign, police arrested Dilip Ghosh and Sayantan Basu. Dilip Ghosh was vocal against the state government for detaining them at the beginning of the campaign. He said, “The state government has allowed Bimal Gurung, accused in the sedition case, to hold a meeting with police security. However, BJP leaders are being detained because they are launching a campaign against corruption.”
