PMLA case: No relief for M Sivasankar, custody extended till November 11

Synopsis

The custody period of M Sivasankar has been extended till November 11. The court will also consider the bail application of Sivasankaran on the same day.  

Kochi: The custody of M Sivasankar, the former principal secretary to Kerala chief minister, was extended till November 11. Sivasankar’s bail plea will be considered by the court on the same day.

Kauser Edappagath, the Principal District and Sessions judge, directed the Enforcement Directorate, which arrested him in the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case, to produce him before the court by 11 am on November 11.

Enforcement Directorate stated that they found the WhatsApp chats of Sivasankar with Swapna Suresh and that they need more time to conduct detailed investigation in the matter. ED also found that Sivasankar transferred certain confidential documents to Swapna Suresh via WhatsApp.

It is in this regard that ED told the court that they need to look into more details.

ED also told the court that there is a link between the gold smuggling case and Life Mission case. Sivasankar has to be interrogated further in this regard, said ED while requesting for an extension of his custody period.

ED claimed that Sivasankar did not cooperate with the officers during the first 3 days of interrogation. Also, ED has asked the chief minister’s additional private secretary, CM Raveendran, to appear before them on Friday.

The court will also consider the bail application of Sivasankaran on November 11.
