PM Modi flags off inaugural flight of sea plane service from Kevadia

Kevadia: PM Modi inaugurated the Water Aerodrome and Thematic Display on Seaplane Operations from Sabarmati Riverfront to Kevadia on Saturday.

PM Narendra Modi travelled on the maiden seaplane flight from Kevadia to Sabarmati. The flight connects Sabarmati riverfront in Ahmedabad to Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Narmada district.

The seaplane flights will be operated by SpiceJet’s fully-owned subsidiary, Spice Shuttle. Initially, SpiceJet will operate two daily round-trip flights on the Ahmedabad-Kevadia route.

The one-way fare for the ride will start at Rs 1,500 under the UDAN scheme and tickets will be available on www.spiceshuttle.com from October 30 onwards. SpiceJet will be using a 15-seater Twin-Otter 300 aircraft for these flights.

The time taken to cover the distance between Kevadia to Sabarmati is usually 5 hours but now with seaplanes it can be covered in 45 minutes.

The 19-seater seaplane will fly four times a day. It will land in Lake No. 3 of the Sardar Sarovar Dam.

It may be noted that seaplanes can land on both small water bodies and short airstrips. The service will offer access to areas that do not have landing strips and runways. The first seaplane landed in India from Male in the Maldives on Sunday.
