A daring saree robbery worth over Rs 7 lakh at a Boyanika store in Odisha by a gang of ladies who committed the theft remains unsolved, despite CCTV footage of the incident becoming viral online. According to police investigations, the gang of six women and one guy carried out the heist in broad daylight while acting as frequent clients. They allegedly arrived in a fancy Toyota Innova and entered the showroom without raising suspicions. Once inside, the heist proceeded with precision.
While a few members of the gang kept the staff engaged by requesting to examine different saree alternatives, others discreetly carried out the robbery. In what investigators characterised as a carefully organised crime, the suspects reportedly concealed around 25 costly tissue pata sarees behind the clothing they were already wearing, wrapping them around their waist and lower body.
The procedure was so flawless that nothing seemed out of place at the moment. The showroom workers discovered the stolen products only after doing a normal stock check. CCTV footage later revealed how the gang coordinated, distracting personnel, forming a human shield, and slipping out undetected.
Following the discovery, a complaint was filed with Angul Town Police Station, and an inquiry was initiated based on CCTV footage. Police have since been seeking to identify the suspects and track their activities. Initial reports indicate that the group of ladies may have gone to Sambalpur, however their specific location has yet to be established.
The event has put local retailers on edge, with many concerned about the likelihood of similar coordinated thefts targeting showrooms around the state. Authorities have recommended company owners to be vigilant and increase monitoring procedures in order to avoid similar events from occurring.
