Mysuru: Chamundi Hills shut for 3 days, as COVID-19 cases escalate

Synopsis

Mysuru’s Chamundi Hills has been shut down for three days as COVID-19 cases are on the increase in the city. More number of people were expected to visit the hill on Wednesday on Mahalaya Amavasya.

Mysuru: Dasara is getting closer and many people are expected to visit Mysuru starting this month.

While this year’s Dasara will be quite simple, tourists are still going to visit the city and its heritage spots.

However, it looks like all the tourist spots may slowly shut down as the date for the festival nears.

The Mysuru district administration has decided to shut down the Chamundi Hills for three days due to the increase in COVID-19 cases.

Tourists and localites can not visit the temple atop the hill starting from Wednesday to Friday (September 16,17,18).

Police officials have been appointed to stop visitors at the foot of the hill. Visitors will not be allowed to climb the hill either by foot or in vehicles.

The decision of shutting down the hill has also been taken as many devotees are celebrating Mahalaya Amavasya today (16 September).

On Mahalaya Amavasya several people from in and around Mysuru climb up the hill to offer prayers to Chamundeshwari.

Due to the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases the district administration has decided to keep the hill closed, especially on Wednesday.
