'Most brutal' of the Nirbhaya rapists is now a cook

Synopsis

Juvenile convict who was released from a correctional home on Dec 15, 2015 is now a cook in the South Nirbhaya's parents want similar sentence for him

The juvenile convict in the Nirbhaya case who was let go on Dec 15, 2015, is now leading a completely different life, unlike his counterparts who are gradually inching toward the gallows. The juvenile, now an adult, is claimed to be working as a cook in South India. The Supreme Court, earlier last week, upheld the death sentence issued to the four convicts-28-year-old Mukesh Singh, 24-year-old Vinay Sharma, 31-year-old Akshay Thakur, and 22-year-old Pawan Gupta-by the Delhi High Court, calling the offence as "brutal and demonic".

While Nirbhaya's parents applaud the sentence, they wished that the juvenile too was treated like an adult and punished in a similar manner since the brutality that he had shown did not go with his age.

Scot-free, the non-governmental organisation that rehabilitated him said he was unaware of the latest development and it was during his stay at the correctional home that he learnt to cook. Following the completion of his sentence at a correction home in the Capital, he was shifted to an undisclosed location.

After the 16 December incident, he was arrested from Delhi's Anand Vihar bus terminal after a massive search was initiated for over 2 days.
