Synopsis

MDMK chief Vaiko condemned the abduction and murder of a 10-year-old girl in Coimbatore. Demanding strict action, he called for a law mandating life imprisonment for such crimes and urged the state government to ensure the safety of women and children.

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) General Secretary Vaiko on Saturday condemned the abduction and murder of a 10-year-old girl in Coimbatore, and demanded strict action in case from the state government.

A 10-year-old girl, who had been missing since Thursday evening, was found dead in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore on Friday. The police have arrested two accused in the case. The accused were remanded to judicial custody.

Details of the Crime

In a statement, Vaiko demanded a law prescribing life imprisonment in such cases. Vaiko said, "A 10-year-old girl studying in the fifth standard at a government school near Sulur in Coimbatore district went missing suddenly while playing near her house on the evening of the day before yesterday. During the investigation conducted by the police, it was found that when the girl had gone to a nearby grocery store, an unidentified young man forcibly took her away on a two-wheeler."

"In this situation, yesterday evening, the girl was found dead near the Kannampalayam lake bank. In connection with this brutal incident, the police conducted an intensive manhunt and arrested two accused persons. The horrific manner in which the girl was tortured and murdered has caused shock across Tamil Nadu. Such a barbaric incident deserves the strongest condemnation," the MDMK founder added.

Vaiko Demands Strict Action

He urged the state government to ensure the safety of women and children and also sought the Centre's support.

"The Tamil Nadu government must take stringent action to maintain law and order in the state and ensure the safety of women and children. The courts should not grant bail to the culprits involved in such heinous crimes. The Tamil Nadu government must enact a law prescribing life imprisonment for the remainder of their lives for those who commit such crimes. The Central Government should also accept and support this position," the statement read.

Officials Inspect Scene

Meanwhile, the members of the State Child Rights Commission, Jaisudha, Kavya and Selvendran, along with District Child Protection Officer Hafsa, inspected the spot of the incident. Sulur constituency MLA Sukumar also visited the site and discussed the case with police personnel. (ANI)
