MCD launches 'Suniyo 2.0' property tax amnesty scheme for 2026-27

MCD has launched the 'Suniyo 2.0' property tax amnesty scheme. It allows property owners to clear dues by paying the principal tax for 2019-20 to 2026-27, with all prior dues, interest, and penalties being waived. The scheme is open until Dec 31, 2026.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Tuesday launched the 'Suniyo 2.0 – One Plus Seven' property tax amnesty scheme for 2026-27, giving property owners an opportunity to clear their eligible tax dues without paying interest or penalties on the covered period.

The scheme will remain open from September 29 to December 31, 2026.

Scheme Details

Under the scheme, taxpayers will have to pay the principal amount of property tax for the current financial year 2026-27 and the previous seven financial years, from 2019-20 to 2025-26, according to the press release. Once the prescribed tax amount for these eight financial years (2019-20 to 2026-27) is paid, outstanding property tax dues from the period before 2019-20, along with the applicable interest and penalty, will be waived, subject to the terms and conditions of the scheme.

Part-Payment Facility

The MCD has also provided a part-payment facility for taxpayers with total tax liabilities of Rs 5 lakh or more. Eligible taxpayers can pay their dues in equal instalments during the scheme period, subject to the prescribed conditions.

Other Provisions and Conditions

The scheme also allows taxpayers to rectify an incorrect property tax assessment within two months or before the scheme closes, whichever is earlier. Those involved in property tax cases pending before courts can also opt for the scheme, but will have to submit an undertaking and withdraw the pending litigation as per the rules, the release stated.

Taxpayer Support and Outreach

Mayor Pravesh Wahi appealed to property owners and taxpayers to make use of the scheme and clear their eligible dues before the December 31 deadline. The MCD has also set up a dedicated helpline at +91-7065064988 to assist taxpayers. To reach more property owners, MCD is organising taxpayer facilitation camps through its zonal offices in coordination with resident welfare associations, group housing societies, market associations, chambers of commerce and trade bodies.
