Mangaluru Police arrest two terror suspects in Udupi

High alert was recently announced in Karnataka’s Mangaluru as militants escaped in Tamil Nadu. Two suspected militants were arrested by Mangaluru Police on Tuesday morning in Udupi.

Udupi: Karnataka police and central agencies have been put on high alert following inputs from central intelligence agencies about a possible terror attack, specially targeting the state capital Bengaluru and coastal regions. 

On the backdrop of high security, the Mangaluru Police have picked up two terror suspects for questioning early in the morning on Tuesday.

Police sources said that two suspected militants have been arrested in the city of Udupi as Krishna Math celebrations are just days away. 

Security arrangements have been heightened across Mangaluru after high alert was sounded on Sunday. 

The two terror suspects were detained when the two failed answer the police during usual rounds. The cops have taken the suspected militants to an undisclosed location for investigation. 

Earlier, on January 12, two persons, including a cleric, were arrested for suspected terror links in Gundlupet in Chamarajanagar district on Sunday, police had said.

"We have arrested two persons including a 'Maulvi' for suspected links with a terror group active in Kerala," a top police officer in Chamarajanagar had said.

Refusing to divulge the names of the suspects, the officer said the two were being questioned.

The arrests were made by the State Anti-terror Squad, Karnataka Internal Security Division and the district police.
