In a bone-chilling incident on an AirAsia flight bound to Kolkata via Ranchi, a man tried to open the emergency exit R2 minutes before the plane landed. This way, he jeopardised the lives of his fellow passengers and the crew members. Having boarded the flight from Delhi, 32-year-old Aftab Ahmed had occupied the seat 24-A in the Air Asia flight (I5-546). He suddenly grew unruly and tried to force open the emergency exit at 9:50 pm when the plane was about to land in Ranchi. When passengers and crew members tried to stop him, he turned violent and injured a few of them.
Meanwhile, in a statement, AirAsia confirmed,"AirAsia India would like to confirm that the airline encountered an unruly passenger onboard flight number I5 546 from New Delhi to Ranchi on July 10th that led to inconvenience to guests and crew on board." The flight, however, landed at the airport on time.
Although it is still unclear why he tried to do that, he has been overpowered and handed over to the local police when the plane landed in the Birsa Munda Airport. There have been several such cases in the past too. For instance, in April, a passenger had to be tied down to his seat while travelling to Delhi from Dubai. He had turned violent soon after the plane took off from Dubai.
In another instance, a Russian passenger in May wanted to open the door of a Delh-bound flight midair. He was apprehended by the crew members and handed over to Delhi police once the plane landed. The tourist was later fined by the court for attempting scare the passengers.
