Madhya Pradesh crisis: Jyotiraditya Scindia meeting PM Modi raises eyebrows

Synopsis

As Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath is striving hard to clear the mess that could unseat him, his fellow Congressman Jyothiraditya Scindia accompanied by Amit Shah met PM Modi at his residence. More updates are expected.

New Delhi: In sensational political developments, accompanied by Union home minister Amit Shah, Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia arrived at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, today to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking an alarming turn of events for his party's government in Madhya Pradesh.

According to a report on India Today, Scindia is likely to join the BJP today, which happens to be his father Madhavrao Scindia's birthday.

According to reports, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reached president Sonia Gandhi’s residence to discuss the political crisis in Madhya Pradesh after several MLAs close to Jyothiraditya Scindia flew to Bengaluru and went incommunicado.

In a surprise move, all 20 Cabinet ministers in the Madhya Pradesh government tendered their resignations to chief minister Kamal Nath at around 11:30 pm on Monday, plunging the state's Congress government into a political uncertainty. The CM accepted their resignations and is likely to reconstitute the Cabinet today.

The administration of chief minister Kamal Nath, seen as Jyotiraditya Scindia's rival, appeared to be on shaky footing when the former Guna MP and several state lawmakers went incommunicado on Monday.

Earlier, Nath told in the Cabinet meeting, "I will not allow (anyone) to destabilise my government with the help of mafia."

"I have dedicated all my life to serving the people, but the BJP has indulged in immoral ways to destabilise my government. My biggest strength is people's faith and their love showered on me. I will not allow any-one to destabilise the government elected by the people," he said.
