Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala might see some rainy days during the Onam festival. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning, stating that a new low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal. This means we can expect rain from tomorrow all the way to Thiruvonam.

The rains are set to get stronger in the state after a brief dry spell. A cyclonic circulation has also formed over the Bay of Bengal and the northern parts of Andhra Pradesh.

Because of this, a yellow alert has been announced for four districts for tomorrow. The warning predicts isolated, heavy spells of rain. The districts under alert are Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, and Wayanad. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along the Kerala-Lakshadweep coasts.

Skymet observation: 13% rainfall deficit in August

According to Skymet, a leading private weather agency, the country recorded a 13% rainfall deficit in August. This year, the monsoon is likely to end 15% earlier than usual due to the weakening of the low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, said Skymet Meteorology Vice President Mahesh Palawat. Although it was expected that the Indian Ocean Dipole would be favorable and would reduce the impact of El Nino, it has now turned neutral, which has turned the tide. As a result, there is less chance of good rainfall in the remaining days of August and September, he said.
