
Kochi: The 54-day-old baby girl who was attacked by her father will go for surgery today (June 22) to remove the build-up blood in the brain. She got injured after her father threw her from the bed and is now undergoing treatment at ICU in Kolenchery Medical Mission Hospital, Kochi.
The child was first admitted to Little Flower Hospital, Angamaly and was later shifted to Kolenchery Medical College.
In connection with the case, the 40-year-old father Shaiju Thomas, was arrested by the Angamaly Police. Attempt to murder and sections of Juvenile Justice Act were invoked against him and he was remanded to judicial custody.
After snatching the infant from his wife, Thomas allegedly slapped the child twice before throwing her on the cot in their home.
The brutal incident occurred on June 18. Police sources said that the child’s mother informed the police that the father brutally attacked the child by slapping her and throwing her on the bed owing to suspicion over paternity. He was also unhappy that she was a girl child.
