The death toll in the massive landslide that occurred in the Idukki district of Kerala continues to rise

Idukki: The death toll in the massive landslide in Kerala's Idukki rose to 52 on Tuesday (August 11) with three more bodies being recovered from the debris. The rescue team is still searching for missing people.

Today, the rescue team found bodies of two men and a woman. The rescue team  has expanded their search operations to the downstream of the river in their efforts to trace 17 more people who are still missing.

The landslide destroyed a row of 20 houses of tea estate workers in the high range Idukki district.

Meanwhile, the water level at Mullaperiyar reservoir in Idukki district reached 136.85 feet on August 11. The Idukki district collector had held discussions with the collector of Theni in neighbouring Tamil Nadu, with regard to the release of water through the tunnel to Vaigai dam when the water level touched the 136-feet mark.
