It hasn’t been more than 3 days that the gruesome gang-rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl, Asifa, has taken the country by shock. Even before we come to terms with such beastly brutality, reports have surfaced that the body of a mentally-ill-girl was discovered on April 13. This girl allegedly went missing from her house, and her body was found floating in a small seasonal ‘nallah’ (locally known as Dabbar), located at a distance of 70 meter from her house, in the outskirts of Jammu district – the same district that bore witness to the disturbing case of Asifa. On April 10, a man had lodged a missing complaint in police post Chowki Choura stating that his daughter had gone missing on April 9 and search for the girl had been initiated too.

According to reports, the post-mortem was conducted by a board of doctors in the presence of the executive magistrate. An inquest proceeding, under section 174 CrPC was initiated as the cause of death is yet to be ascertained.
