Karnataka: Tejasvi Surya fined Rs 250 for not wearing mask

The Karnataka government on Monday informed the High Court that Bengaluru South MP and the National President of BJP Yuva Morcha Tejasvi Surya was fined for appearing in a public rally without wearing a mask on September 30. The fine was paid on November 7.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court was informed today that a fine of Rs 250 was imposed on Member of Parliament and Advocate Tejasvi Surya for not wearing a face mask while attending a political rally in September.

A Division Bench of Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka and Justice Vishwajith Shetty was further informed that the fine was paid by Surya on November 7.

The Bench further asked the State to place on record the updated version of regulations framed under the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Ordinance, 2020.

The Court was hearing a plea alleging that the National Directives for COVID-19 Management, part of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) guidelines, were not being followed in Karnataka.

Last week, the Bench had asked the state government whether it had levied a fine on Tejasvi Surya and other political leaders for not wearing masks while attending political rallies.
