Karnataka: Post-matric hostels to reopen from November 17

Synopsis

The hostels managed by the Social Welfare Department will be sanitised and reopened in a bid to help students attending the sessions in colleges which will reopen from November 17.

Bengaluru: Social Welfare Minister B Srirmaulu has ordered the opening of post-matric hostels across the state from Tuesday, after the state government's decision to reopen colleges for offline sessions.

According to the minister, the hostels managed by the Social Welfare Department will be sanitised and reopened in a bid to help students attending the sessions.

Earlier in October, the state government had decided to reopen engineering, diploma, and degree colleges (including PG) that were shut due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Students have been given options to either attend online, offline classes, or blended learning by using both options.

Those who want to attend the class offline will have to submit an approval letter from their parents and produce a COVID-19 negative certificate.

Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yediyurappa had given a green signal to reopen colleges in the state.

The reopen date was announced by Deputy Chief Minister Ashwath Narayan after he had a meeting with BS Yediyurappa.

Earlier last week, Health and Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar had announced the government's decision to reopen all medical, dental, AYUSH, paramedical, nursing, and pharmacy colleges affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) from December 1.
