Karnataka: Minister Suresh Kumar issues clarification on reopening of schools

Synopsis

Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Suresh Kumar informed people that the state government has not yet taken any decision on reopening of schools. The minister issued a clarification as parents fear it is too soon to open schools.

Bengaluru: Parents in Karnataka have been panicking since the last few days fearing that schools will reopen in October, and their children could be exposed to COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Suresh Kumar has informed people that the state government has not yet taken any decision on reopening schools.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Suresh Kumar said “We have not yet finalised the date to reopen schools in the state”.

Earlier in August, Suresh Kumar had sought suggestions from ministers and MLAs on reopening of schools which had remained closed due to the COVID pandemic.

The minister had stated in his letter that the schools shut in March had not been reopened on account of COVID-19. “The academic year which ideally should have commenced in June has not taken off properly till date. This prolonged gap has also paved way for other problems and hence I seek your suggestions on reopening of schools.”

Suresh Kumar had appealed to the elected representatives to give their suggestions on when the schools should be reopened if there is any such possibility and which classes should be reopened first.
