Weekend travel for 17 members in a passenger jeep turned tragic as a jeep collided with a lorry resulting in 8 deaths and 9 injured.

The incident happened at Marinayakanahalli, Chintamani taluk of Chikkaballapur district some 80 kms away from Bengaluru.

As per reports some of the deceased have been identified as Gopalliya Muniruthamma, (49), Ramesh (49), Kusandrada Nikil (22), Sonnashettyhalliya Narayanswamy (55) and Venkata Lakshamma (45).

As per reports, the jeep with whiteboard number plate was caught by officials at Srinivaspur taluk and warned not to carry so many passengers.

Fearing seizure of the vehicle, the driver started covering the Chintamani route for sometime now. The officials who had come for spot inspection found fault with the lorry driver and accused him of negligence and overspeeding which led to the mishap.

A case has been registered in Taluk Traffic Police station and bodies have been sent for autopsy.

Soon after this incident, the District police raised an alert and checking has been intensified at all the check posts as Kolar district is a gateway for Andhra Pradesh as well as Tamil Nadu and vehicle users may increase the speed on highways.

Recently, 7 people were killed in Bengaluru when their luxury Audi car hit the footpath bollards and a commercial complex wall and bounced back. One of the victims was the son of Hosuru DMK MLA Y Prakash. Due to the impact of the accident, 7 including 3 women died on the spot in Bengaluru.
