Karnataka govt to bear travel cost of migrant workers travelling home on special trains

 The Karnataka government on Friday said it would bear the travel cost of migrant workers and stranded people to their respective states by Shramik trains up to May 31.  

Bengaluru: Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa on May 22 said that the government will bear the cost of travel of migrant workers and stranded persons to their homes by Shramik special trains.  BS Yediyurappa, in a series of tweets, said the government has considered the plea of migrant workers who were unable to bear the travel expenditure to go back to their hometowns.

Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa took to his official Twitter handle stating, "The government has considered the plea of migrant workers who were unable to bear the travel expenditure to go back to their home town. The government considers them as our own people and it is my firm belief that they too must be supported by the State."

"Karnataka Government will bear the cost of travel of migrant workers and stranded persons to their respective States by Shramik Trains up to May 31, 2020," he added.

Days ago, the West Bengal government took a similar decision for the return of Bengali migrants stranded in other parts of the country. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee had announced that her government would arrange free travel by train for all the workers and other people who are stranded in other parts of the country and want to return to West Bengal.
